Energy Efficiency Modelling

British Columbia adopted the BC Energy Step Code (BCESC) as a provincial policy that aims to create healthier, more efficient and more comfortable buildings. Homeowners can also expect lower cost of utilities with higher efficiency homes.

Architects, builders, and homebuilders must retain an Energy Advisor (EA), such as ourselves, that is in good standing and registered with Natural Resource Canada to review and model the proposed house in HOT2000 (H2K), the approved energy modelling software. The purpose of the modelling is to assess the performance of the proposed equipment and systems, and the performance of the building envelope. The proposed house is then compared to a base code reference house that has the same building design parameters but built to the BCBC building code standards. The EA will then suggest and model appropriate equipment and building envelope upgrades that will boost the energy efficiency of the home in order to meet the designated BCESC Step.
