Airtightness Blower Door Testing
When construction is underway and prior to the building official’s “Insulation and Vapour Barrier Inspection“ the house must be reviewed by a registered Energy Advisor such as MAYZON who will develop a “Mid Construction Compliance Report” that will be submitted to the permit office. During that review an airtightness blower door test must also be performed to assess the air barrier system and ensure the house will meet the minimum required Air Changes per Hour (ACH). If the house does not meet the airtightness requirement at this stage, we will help the builder find the leakage areas and advise how to remediate the deficiencies prior to drywall installation, when it’s much less invasive.
Once the house is constructed and prior to occupancy, we must return and perform a final airtightness blower door test to ensure the house meets the target ACH. We then provide an “As-Built Compliance Report” to submit along with the occupancy permit. The As-Built report will satisfy the building officials that the house was built to the designed energy goals.
MAYZON through our Service Organization and Natural Resource Canada will produce an EnerGuide Rating Label that can be affixed in an inconspicuous location in the house.
